Unfortunately, bots in Quake 2 is not possible on the Raspberry Pi for technical reason too long and too complex to explain. But we do like to offer alternatives. So you can do one of the following:
- Run the (unmaintained) Virtual Machine version of Quake On LAN on your PC or Mac
- connect to our Public Quake II Server (with bots) at bots.quakeonlan.net (*)
* Server is NOT run on a Raspberry Pi. We wouldn’t do this, and neither should you!
Both solutions will let you play Quake 2 Deathmatch against AI players as if they were real humans. Who knows? You might even encounter some real people on there!
If you are running the retail version of Quake 2 on Windows and want to try out an offline bot, you could do worse than the (unfinished) BBQbot, written by team member
RawShark back in the day. It’s fun 🙂
